The Malem Alarm and Toilet Trainers? have a small sensor attached by a long wire to a very small electronics package that also houses the alarm buzzer.
The electronic package is pinned to the patient’s night apparel high on the chest, near an ear.
The assembly is completed by a disposable pad in which the sensor is housed, this is put into the patients underpants.
The sensor will detect the very first sign of wetness and cause the multi frequency alarm to operate, waking the patient.
This method has proved to have trained approximately 90% of users not to wet the bed (medical papers available).
Two other models are available, a silent vibrating alarm so other sleepers are not disturbed, and a visual (light) alarm to alert nursing staff.
There are blank charts that can be filled in to monitor the time of day or night that the person tends to wet the bed which may give a good trend, thus saving much labour, sheets and stress to patient, staff and loved ones.
